Things around us...changing very fast...

Things around us are changing very fast, right from the multistory building near us to melting of glacier all are happening without control. I wonder " How could stop a building or a concrete structure being built", "how does on stop the glacier melting", In fact there is a lot to be done in the reverse process. There are many things that happen beyond our control. Expanding of urbanization and melting of glaciers are few of them from thousands of millions such happenings...  Today, demand has increased many fold, leading to increase in production, building of transport infrastructure, vehicular traffic, pollution and finally the global warming.  All these will bring more comfort, but will also add to human hazard. All these has to be controlled and managed, human want has to be curtailed and sustainable way of life-style has to be adopted as soon as possible...

Glance at the IT City...

As I travel by bus, I see both side of the road is occupied like never-before in the human history. Every inch of space has a worth. From Konapanna Agrahara untill rural Bangalore...both side of the road is occupied by traders and offices. Constructions going all over Bangalore, weather is becoming unpleasant day by day, poor migrant from rural India flocking the city to earn decent money. Chaos is every where. Vehicles run 24*7 all round the year carrying logistics, carrying passengers. India was awake 64 years, in freedom struggle; even today India is struggling to serve the MNCs, to earn decent living. We were under the Bristish Raj, now under Capitalism Raj. What will become when most of the people from the rural India flock to cities to find better opportunities: cities will get crowded, water scarcity, rise in price of drinking water, constant load shedding, crowded buses, more traffic, drainage and sewage problem. Urban culture is flourishing, more urba...

Poverty: Is it God given?

This week I was reading a chapter "Self-Reliant Developemnt of Disadvantaged Rural People and the Role of Devlopment Professionals" by Damodar Suar. The author is a teaches psychology in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at I.I.T., Kharagpur (West Bengal). He speaks of characteristics of disadvantaged rural poor (DRP), he divides into three: 1.Behavioural Characteristics 2. Social Characteristics 3. Economic Characteristics He aslo speaks of failure of government's idealistic infrastructure developmental schemes. He say that rural poor assume that 'poverty is a God given phenomenon', 'the work of the poor is to serve the wealthy and earn living'.I feel it is not a God given phenomenon, every person has right to live a healthy and wealthy life. The poor should be helped and given as mush opportunity possible.

Poverty: A factor resisting Indian students pursue higher education.

Recently I visited a district in a north Indian state. I was amazed with the indutrial and agricultural development. Place looks humming with good harvest and employment at leading private and government sector. But can we assume that industrial and agrcultural prosperity in the district has brought so-called "quality of life" in the lives of people. Basically, are the labourers employed getting decent pay? after more than 60 years of India's independence we are still struggling, we got freedom from British Raj, but not from poverty. Every poor in India has his own story of struggle, a nation with a billion stories. Yes, I along with my team reached the district on 10th of March at 11:30 pm, the city had slept, when we reached. I started saying my friends that we are lucky to see city sleep and drive in a rickshaw through the not-like-city-roads. every end of the roads were empty, only few dogs providing free night security to shops.Rusty streets light poles carryin...

Movie Review: Diksha(1991)

Diksha, a film directed by Arun Kaul, based on a story by eminent Kannada litterateur U.R. Ananthamurty, explores the traditional brahmin culture. the movie portrays how some acts in a the then society were considered 'sacred and profane'. Koga(Nana Patekar) is a servant, does many works at the ashram. He gets all the left-over food to eat. he becomes a good friend of Narayan(Nanni). In one scene, the little boy insists to touch Koga, but Koga refuses saying that if you touch me, you will become unholy. Nanni insists to touch him and nears towards Koga, Koga in response climbs a arecanut tree and shifts to other trees and finally climbs down and runs away. Children at young age aren't aware of all the social intricacies, they inbibe all the societal attributes as they grow up. Here I feel education can make a great difference by various kinds of intervention. A teacher in a school can be a person who can contribute in making a rational human being. I doubt, The edu...

Walk and Talk... and explore as well, What an !dea...:-)

Thought of posting something, right after the creation of my Soci ology Space dot com. On Sunday evening (22nd Jan) last week, my friend Deepak Kumar and myself planned to take a evening walk. We walked through the tiny path amongst the bushes behind the boys' hostel and reached metalled road, which connects Hosa Road Junction to Electronic City Phase II. the road is double lane, but very few vehicles love to walk this way. Before reaching the metalled road, we gazed on White Cranes and the lovely bio-diversity. We talked as if we are some environmentalist investigating a bio-diversity (still I feel, I have some innate environmentalsit in me). Reaching the road, we took left and again right...there is another large lake. We went nearby and started investigation and this time we demonstrated some real skillls. Here I jot down some interaction between us: Deepak: Perhaps, the sewage is drained in this lake. Me: Hmm, I feel sewage isn't here. the water looks quite cle...
