Poverty: A factor resisting Indian students pursue higher education.

Recently I visited a district in a north Indian state. I was amazed with the indutrial and agricultural development. Place looks humming with good harvest and employment at leading private and government sector. But can we assume that industrial and agrcultural prosperity in the district has brought so-called "quality of life" in the lives of people. Basically, are the labourers employed getting decent pay? after more than 60 years of India's independence we are still struggling, we got freedom from British Raj, but not from poverty. Every poor in India has his own story of struggle, a nation with a billion stories.

Yes, I along with my team reached the district on 10th of March at 11:30 pm, the city had slept, when we reached. I started saying my friends that we are lucky to see city sleep and drive in a rickshaw through the not-like-city-roads. every end of the roads were empty, only few dogs providing free night security to shops.Rusty streets light poles carrying load of pale, hazy bulbs, which are waiting for the dawn. I watced both side of the road and located some showrooms, where stuffs of MNCs are sold. I could see traces of neo-colonialisation.

Well the majority population in Rudrapur are dependent on agriculture and industrial jobs, there are big manufacturing plants in the outskirts of the city.

The rural and deprived folk work in sugarcane fileds and low-paying jobs.

I interacted with a boy at a school at Sitarganj (near Rudrapur), I asked him what was his father doing?, he replied that his father has passed away. Later I enquired about his mother, he said she worked at Sugarcane fields. I wondered how would the boy continue hus studies after he completes his schooling? How will he join college?. there thousands of students like the boy in India who join workforce very early, even before 18 years in  order to support family and self.

Very few rural Indian students continue their studies and pursue higher education. One of the factor that stops them from pursuing higer education is 'poverty' or simply 'scarcity of money in hand'.

How to achieve poverty-free society? is a most challenging question and a emotional question for me especially.
